When it comes to racing video games, you usually get one of two types of experiences. Something like Need for Speed that provides pure excitement and speed at the cost of realism, and then you get titles like Forza Motosports that covet realism above all.

But what if you want a game that focuses on the feeling of racing a car? The Grid series of games focuses on providing a racing game that features a feeling of heft, and speed and motion. They don’t give a direct simulation like Gran Turismo, but they don’t feel fake either. It is this middle ground that provides that perfect vicarious thrill.

If this is the kind of game you are looking for, well I have great news for you; there is a new one coming out. The video above is the announcement trailer for Grid Autosport, and it looks to be one hell of a crazy ride. Rather than focusing on GT-style racers, like the past few titles have, this new game provides options for open-wheel racing, prototypes, and much more. They even have full-on tandem drift matches, just like you see in Formula D.

We don’t yet have a full list of cars and tracks, but you can see in the video that there is a great mix of exotic machinery, purpose built racers and high-end sports cars. There also appear to be dedicated tracks as well as street circuits.

If you want to pick up a copy, the game hits store shelves on June 27th for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. I am not making any promises, but don’t be surprised if we post a full review for you guys.
