Mazda->ke53 has just revealed that the 2016 Miata will be unveiled on September 3rd. That's awesome news for sports car nuts like you and me, but the big news lies in the teaser the Japanese released along with the brief announcement. And it's not the customary photo that shows either a headlamps or a wheel. It's way better, as we're getting a taste of the Miata's brand-new, turbocharged engine.

That's right folks, the Miata->ke1185 is embracing forced induction and all the coolness that comes with it. Details are still under wraps as of 07/04/2014, but the MX-5 screaming up a canyon road in the adjacent video suggests a lot of goodness is coming our way. The slight whistle you're hearing on those upshifts is a clear indication of a turbocharger unit residing under the hood, most likely mated to the aluminum, four-banger engine everyone's been talking about lately.

We already know Mazda is using a SkyActive chassis for the upcoming Miata, which means we're also getting a lighter, and more fuel efficient sports car to go with the force-fed powerplant. All we need is to find out more about the number of horses directed to the pavement and have a glimpse at the Miata's brand-new design. We don't know about you, but we can't wait for September 3rd to arrive. Stay tuned to TopSpeed until then, we have a feeling there are more teasers coming our way.
