Look for the big reveal in just a month’s time

Jaguar just dropped an official on-sale date for its upcoming all-electric SUV, the I-Pace. Order books for the electron-driven machine open on March 1st, with a public debut at the Geneva Motor Show just a few days afterwards. To build up the hype, the Cat Badge dropped a quick video of a camo’d out I-Pace doing its thing on an icy handling course in Sweden.

So far, Jag is keeping a lid on specs, but did mention the I-Pace will manage an 80-percent charge in just 45 minutes when plugged into a DC fast-charge source (100 kW).

Back in 2015, Jaguar raised more than a few eyebrows with the release of the F-Pace SUV, the brand’s very first effort in the outrageously popular tall-and-practical segment. A year later, Jag broke with tradition once again when it announced it was building an all-electric iteration of the F-Pace, this time around calling it the I-Pace. Since the announcement, we’ve seen teasers, concepts, and spy shots of the SUV, and now it’s looking like the brand is about ready to drop the real thing into the laps of customers. Framed as offering “sports car performance and SUV practicality,” you can bet there’s more than a few folks out there chomping at the bit to get behind the wheel.

So far, Jag is keeping a lid on specs, but did mention the I-Pace will manage an 80-percent charge in just 45 minutes when plugged into a DC fast-charge source (100 kW). It should also offer battery pre-conditioning through the use of an app, extracting maximum range in a variety of environments, plus AWD grip as needed.

To demonstrate those last two features, Jag brought some cameras to a test facility in Arjeplog, Sweden, where the I-Pace was undergoing testing in arctic conditions at -40 degrees centigrade. Also in attendance was one lucky local Jag fan, a Mr. Tony Westerlund, who got to try his hand wheeling the I-Pace around on an icy handling course. He also had a few questions about what it would be like to live with the I-Pace in arctic conditions. The results of the visit were edited down into a video about a minute and 40 seconds in length depicting Westerlund’s impressions and glory shots of a camo’d out I-Pace getting sideways on the white stuff. You can check out the video below.

The all-electric I-Pace is up against competitors like the Tesla Model X.

“Not only will the I-Pace charge quickly enough for our customers to carry out their everyday lives, it will offer powerful and precise performance in a variety of conditions and climactic extremes,” said Jaguar Vehicle Line Director, Ian Hoban. “Allied with the versatile credentials of our celebrated Pace family, this will be an electric performance SUV like no other.”

And, in case you were wondering, the all-electric I-Pace is up against competitors like the Tesla Model X.

Look for a full reveal of the Jaguar I-Pace on March 1st, at which time Jag is expected to divulge all the details in a live broadcast, while also announcing an official price and opening up the order books. We expect pricing to slot in at around $75,000. Following the broadcast will be a debut at the Geneva Motor Show on March 6th.
