It’s time to take a little break from all those supercars launched in the past few years and focus on something a little bit older - a Mormon Meteor III, which was the fastest racecar->ke148 of the 1930s.

In the latest episode of Jay Leno’s Garage->ke3731, he had to chance to drive this one-off racecar built by Ab Jenkins in 1937 when he was only 17. The Meteor III is based on a Dusenberg SJ and is powered by a massive 26-liter Curtiss Conqueror airplane engine that develops a total of 750 horsepower. Say what Lamborghini->ke44?

In 1939, the car managed to break all the world record on the 12-hour endurance-race circuit and was able to hit a top speed of 171 mph. To help put that into perspective, a Ford->ke31 Model Y offered in during that period was able to hit a top speed of just 60 mph.
