The chaps at AutoCar recently had the pleasure of getting behind the wheel of the all new Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni in order to put the all new two wheel drive Lamborghini through its paces on the track, as well as on a country road. This particular Lamborghini is a very interesting model, because after almost a decade of having all wheel drive as one of the brand’s core elements, they have produced a rear wheel drive model.

AutoCar’s senior road tester was delighted by the new Gallardo named after the exotic Italian automaker’s long time test driver, Valentino Balboni. The LP550-2 exhibited a much more nimble driving experience, with the power train now disconnected from the front wheels, the Lamborghini’s steering is much lighter and has a more direct feel. The Gallardo LP 550-2 is powered by a 5.2 Liter V10 that delivers 550 HP. Weighing in at only 3042 lbs, the right wheel drive Gallardo can sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in just 3.9 seconds and is capable of hitting a top speed of 199 MPH. Could this be a hint at what the high-end Italian automaker has in store for special edition high performance options, we certainly hope so.
