Nissan->ke62 has just thrown down the gauntlet. The crazy Japanese company has taken its new ZEOD RC Le Mans->ke1591 racer to the Top Gear->ke1860 test track and managed to blast around the airfield in 1:05.3. That is more than eight seconds faster than the Pagani Huayra->ke3763, the fastest car on the Top Gear Power Board. Now as an actual race car, the ZEOD RC doesn’t qualify for the “official” lap time list, but even when compared to the other “disqualified” cars, it lands in fourth place behind a Harrier jet and a pair of open-wheel racers.

The Zeod RC was so fast that it beat cars like the Ferrari FXX->ke407, Caparo T1, Aston Martin DBR9 and the Pagani Zonda R. Nissan was able to achieve this feat, but using a sneaky little secret that few people knew about. When the ZEOD RC was being tested and raced in Le Mans, Nissan was using it with either a 1.5-liter, turbocharged engine with 400 horsepower, or a lithium battery pack and some electric motors. What Nissan didn’t tell many people, is that both systems could be run together. The result is a 750 horsepower hybrid rocket.

Just press play to watch all the crazy engineers at work to get this thing moving, then watch the blisteringly fast lap in its entirety. This was technically a piece for the Top Gear magazine, but don’t be surprised if the Nissan ZEOD RC also makes an appearance in the television show when it comes back later this year.
