Video: Porsche 918 Spyder explained by Wolfgang Durheimer

When the Geneva Motor Show opened a few days ago, a lot of us had no inkling that Porsche would unveil the 918 Spyder. After all, much of the talk leading up to the show centered on the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid with little to no mention of the 918 Spyder anywhere.

Needless to say, our jaws dropped on the floor as soon as Porsche rolled out this top-down beauty. Sure, a lot of us had more questions than answers regarding the 918 Spyder and fortunately, EVO’s Chris Harris – that dude is everywhere, seriously – was able to spend a few minutes with the brains behind the 918 Spyder, Wolfgang Durheimer, Porsche’s executive vice president for research and development.

Part 2 of the video after jump

In this two-part video, Harris inquisitively grills Durheimer about the 918 Spyder with the high-ranking executive adeptly explaining how the 918 Spyder could set the benchmark for future sports cars that couldn’t find a way to combine high-end performance with a consumption and CO2 emission that wouldn’t compromise the car’s overall performance.

According to Durheimer, Porsche found a solution to that problem with the fruit of all their labor manifesting itself into that fine piece of vehicular engineering known as the 918 Spyder. To know more about the 918 Spyder straight from the horse’s mouth, check out these two videos of Harris getting a personal tour of the car courtesy of Wolgang Durheimer himself.

Absolutely a car that you will fall in love with the first time you have seen it. Were there any news on it being produced and distributed though?

At least we can hear a bit of the engine note this time. Also, there’s snow on the sides of the road course, so apparently, it performs fine in the cold.
