The new 2011 Shelby GT500 has been recently tested at Virginia International Raceway (VIR), one of the worlds most technical and grueling road courses. The car was powered by a new aluminum 5.4-liter supercharged engine and the optional SVT Performance Package that includes staggered lightweight 19 inch forged aluminum wheels up front and 20 inch rollers at the rear wrapped in Goodyear Eagle F1 Super Car tires. This combo can whip out a whopping 550 HP. Take that kind of horsepower to the track and the results are quite impressive.

So how did the Shelby GT500 handle itself out on the track. Well, with a lap time of 2:58.48, the 2011 Shelby GT500 with the SVT Performance Package was over eight seconds a lap faster around the Virginia International Raceway than the 2010 model! How’s that for model advancement?

Check out the video to see the 2011 Shelby GT500 handle its own on the track.

Good thing that goodyear eagle tires can take that killer friction and spins.

The driver really got those skills in driving, so I might expect he will get the lead on the real challenged in the real race track.
