It hasn’t been long since Subaru->ke86 and hot-shoe driver Mark Higgins beat the record for the fastest production car lap around the Isle of Man, doing it in 19 minutes, 26 seconds with an average speed of 117.51 mph. More importantly, the record Higgins and Subaru beat was their own, set back in 2011 in a previous-gen WRX STI at 19 minutes, 56.7 seconds with an average speed of 115.36 mph.

Well now Subaru has released the video->ke278 about showcasing how the automaker and Higgins prepared for the 37.75-mile lap around the British isle. The video shows more than a few dramatic interior and aerial shots of the 2015 WRX STI blasting around corners and flying over hill crests.

In an effort to record Higgins’ reactions while racing, the Subaru team fitted him with sensors that measured his heart rate, breaths, skin temperature, and personal g forces independent of the car.

Speaking of the car, the WRX STI is a completely redesigned for 2015 with improved aerodynamics, 40-percent stiffer chassis, with better suspension components, and a quicker steering rack. For the race, Subaru added a safety roll cage, racing harness, and a fire suppression system. Mechanically, the car was stock except for stiffer springs and dampers to handle the numerous jumps throughout the course.

The Subaru’s blue hood still covers the stock turbocharged 2.5-liter, boxer four-cylinder that’s good for an amazing 305 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque. Its zero to 60 mph time remains stock at roughly 4.5 seconds, but its top speed limiter of 155 mph has been removed to help Higgins blast around the track as quickly as possible.
