Video: Supercar Blondie Checks Out the World’s Only Off-Road Mercedes-Maybach

It features a lot of cool, unique, hidden elements that would usually never be associated with a Maybach badge

Back in December 2021, Mercedes announced the first details on the Project Maybach - a unique concept car designed in collaboration with Virgil Abloh. The debut came less than a month after Virgil Abloh’s death, so the details on the concept were very limited. More details on the concept were revealed at the beginning of May 2022, during the latest Design Essentials event, but nothing too in-depth. And this is where Supercar Blondie comes to the rescue with a super-detailed video!

When Mercedes announced this project back in December, 2021 it didn’t reveal many details on it. Luckily, Supercar Blondie was able to actually get inside the car and highlight a lot of cool features - many of them we have never seen before in a car.

First of all, this is a concept car, and there is only one in existence. It is very long: it measures 6 meters (236.22 inches) - the same length as the Mercedes-Maybach 6 Concept announced back in 2017. It rides on 17-inch wheels wrapped in huge off-road tires and, as a distinctive feature of the exterior, the taillights light up to display the Maybach logo. Also, the roll cage was placed outside, and not on the inside like on many other off-road vehicles. It has four extra vehicle-integrated lighting units with technoid design for better view during off-roading. The headlights are huge, the Mercedes-Maybach grille received a modern interpretation, and the engine hood features solar panels - we are talking about an electric concept, after all.

If the exterior didn’t convince you, the interior is a combination of cool features, luxury, and practicality. There are hidden drawers in the door, the emergency kit is hidden in the B-pillar. And speaking of which, it contains an axe with both the Maybach and Virgil Abloh logo. The toolbox slides perfectly into the side of the dashboard, the huge screen hides away, while both seats fold into very comfortable beds. They even have a reading lamp for those moment you just want to hang out in the wild. There is also a huge parking button placed right next to the steering wheel.

Of course, this is just a concept car, but it did inspire the limited edition Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. With a price that is double that of any V-12 Maybach models, this cool S-Class will be limited to only 150 units and will be offered with a special custom-made wooden box covered in sand-colored Nappa leather and emblazoned with the Mercedes-Maybach and Virgil Abloh logo.
