The Bugatti Divo is drawing closer to its highly anticipated debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance this coming August. Precious details have been revealed about the hypercar, but it is expected to be a more evocative version of the Chiron, one that will be coach-built and more driver-focused. In the absence of any meaningful information, Bugatti has released a teaser video of the Divo, specifically the raunchy taillights that are completely different from what the Chiron has. Could this be a sign of what we can expect from the Divo? It certainly appears like it.

From what we do know about the Divo, it appears that Bugatti is trying to separate it from the Chiron in ways that it didn’t do with the special edition Bugatti Veyrons it released in the past. Most of those models still used the Veyron nameplate, but Bugatti looks like it’s intentionally leaving out the Chiron name with this model.

It’s an interesting approach given the reports that the Divo is still a re-bodied version of the Chiron that uses the same architecture that underpins the current Bugatti headliner. Even the use of the “Divo” name is seen as a nod to one of the automaker’s pre-war grand prix drivers, who, in this case, is Albert Divo, a two-time Targa Florio winner. Bugatti used similar naming strategies in creating the Chiron and Veyron nameplates, each of which was named after Louis Chiron and Pierre Veyron, respectively.

Another interesting element about the Divo is the approach Bugatti is taking in defining its identity. According to news reports, the Divo is being developed with the goal of turning it a more dynamic-handling hypercar as opposed to being a full-on, high-speed grand tourer. Should that be the case, the Divo could be packing loads of aggressive aerodynamic qualities on top of having a tighter suspension system, and perhaps a lighter overall weight, as well.

Granted, all of this is a matter of speculation until we see the finished product dominate the headlines at the coming Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance next month. The good news is that we won’t have to wait long to find out about the Divo as the 2018 staging of the event is scheduled to open in a month’s time on August 26.

Only 40 units of the Bugatti Divo are expected to be built, each coming with a price of $6 million. Whatever form, shape, or characteristic the Bugatti Divo comes in, there’s one indisputable fact about the hypercar that it shares with the Chiron: you’re going to have to break the bank to afford one.
