The Passat is entering the winter season with two new engines to choose from: the 1.4 TSI (90 kW / 122 PS) and the 1.8 TSI (118 kW / 160 PS). That brings the choice up to seven petrol engines (ranging from 102 to 250 PS) and three diesel engines.
The new TSI-generation engine options now available to drive the Passat replace the two previously offered FSI engines with 1.6 and 2.0 litres of cubic capacity. These TSI engines offer more power while consuming less fuel.
With a top speed of 203 km/h, the Passat 1.4 TSI runs on an average of 6.6 litres of petrol per 100 km (the Passat estate: 200 km/h, 6.7 l/100 km), meaning fuel consumption is reduced by 0.9 l/100 km against the 1.6 FSI version. The basic price tag on the Passat with a 1.4 TSI engine is 24,625 euro, while the Passat estate is available from 25,775 euro.
The 1.8 TSI option completes the range of powerful petrol engines available for the Passat. With a top speed of 220 km/h and a consumption value of 7.6 litres per 100 km (Passat estate: 217 km/h, 7.8 l/100 km), this choice enables driving pleasure on the back of exceptionally sophisticated technology. The Passat 1.8 TSI is available at a basic price of 27,125 euro, and the estate costs 28,275 euro. A 6-speed automatic gearbox is an optional extra for this engine.
In addition to these new engines, the Park Assist steering aid (originally featured in the Touran) will also be available for the Passat, effective immediately, at an additional cost of 755 euro. The sensors used in this system can be activated at the press of a button to automatically reverse the Passat into a parking space, the dimensions of which the system has previously gauged.
Another new feature for the Passat is the RNS 510 radio-navigation system. The system is operated using a touch screen, it comes with a 30-gigabyte hard disk and can even be used to play video DVDs. The hardware used consists of a graphic and PC power processor with 400 MHz. The Passat estate additionally comes with a rear-vision camera as a standard feature.
