Volkswagen Received 10,000 Orders for the 2020 Volkswagen ID.3 Within the First 24 Hours of Pre-Ordering
Volkswagen’s registration system almost collapsed.by Carter Stone, on
Volkswagen reported that, within the first 24 hours after opening registrations, the ID.3 hatchback collected 10,000 pre-booking across Europe. The massive number of users overloaded VW’s system, which caused interruptions and delays to customers trying to pay the $1,122 deposit due for the registration.
With a 205-mile range, the base model ID.3 starts from "under €30,000". Starting from "less than €40,000" the ID.3 limited edition "1st" includes a 261-mile battery. Two trims of that model are available: "1st Plus" and "1st Max".
Starting from May 8th, prospective customers can register online for the Volkswagen special edition ID.3 "1st" hatchback.
According to VW, production will start in late-2019 on the new MBE platform, although the first vehicle won't be delivered until mid-2020.
The base model is due to start at about $33,600, and will be offered with three different battery pack options - a 45 kWh, 58 kWh, or 77 kWh battery pack - for a range of 330-550 km, based on the WLTP standard. Starting from about $44,800, the ID.3 limited edition "1st" includes the mid-tier, 261-mile battery, navigation, voice control, and large wheels. Two options are available: "1st Plus" with additional lighting and design touches and "1st Max," which also includes an expanded reality heads-up display plus a panoramic glass roof.
For those who pre-booked the ID.3 special edition, limited to 30,000 vehicles, VW offers free charging for the first year up to a maximum of 2,000 kWh at charging networks partnering with VW, including the IONITY network.
Within the first 24 hours since opening registrations, VW reported 10,000 pre-orders for ID.3 hatchback across 29 European countries. In 2016, Tesla received 232,000 pre-orders for the Tesla Model 3 within the first 24 hours. Well, good luck to VW with its ambitious plan to have more than 20 full-electric models and 1 million EV sales per year by 2025.
