Auto Motor Und Sport caught the upcoming Scirocco testing. The new compact coupe will be inspired by the Iroc Concept unveiled in 2006 at the Paris Motor Show.

Built on the same platform with the Volkswagen Eos, the new Scirocco will be powered by a range of engines starting with the 1,6-Liter-FSI with an output of 115 hp and up to the strong 3.2 liters V6 engine with an output of 250 hp. Diesel version will also be available with output around 170 hp.

Set to be unveiled in early 2008, the Scirocco will be priced around 25.000 euro. The new model will be built in Portugal, in the same plant with the Eos.

Actually the Scirocco concept has brought new interest to VW, as well as the CGI gathering headway from others who never considered the brand. Several so called "car enthusiasts", haven’t even given this car a chance to see a full reveal before shooting it down. I agree with you tango, VW scraped the Scirocco/Corrado names too soon and thinking people would settle for vehicles like GTI, R32, & GLI. These maybe suitable for those who want small car with a sporty look but these will not attract those looking for a true "sport coupe". I found no interest in the VW lineup until the Scirocco concept & the Concept R. To bring in new blood VW needs the Scirocco, both the concept and the silver CGI are interesting, yet exciting looks at what VW could bring to the table. Actually, taking a look at this prototype plus the image posted on autoweek for the 2009 Scirocco, there is a close resemblance between the two.

The jury is still out on this one as far as I’m concerned. I’ve always said that VW should have kept the Scirocco/Corrado theme alive, but I’m not so sure the lines I’m seeing here grip me the same as the fore-runners. The first time I saw the Corrado I was in love. I’ll wait and see before I cast final judgement.
