Volkswagen wins 2007 design award
Volkswagen has been presented with the Silver 2007 Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany for its corporate book called “Volkswagen Corporate Design Essentials”. The award-winning “brand bible” provides a clear visual presentation and documentation of brand tonality and the design principles of the Volkswagen brand. The Silver Award was presented at a public ceremony in Frankfurt am Main on Friday during the Ambiente international trade fair.
At the invitation of the German Design Council, an international jury decided on the Design Award winners. 25 products out of a total of 940 nominations, including 200 from the field of communication design, were chosen to receive Germany’s only official design award.
"For Volkswagen, corporate identity and corporate design play an extremely important role. They contribute to the high awareness of the Volkswagen brand. We are proud to have won the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany," Jochen Sengpiehl, Head of Marketing at Volkswagen, commented.
The Design Award is awarded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Trade and organized by the German Design Council. The Ministries and Senators for Trade and Industry of the German States and the Federal Ministry of Economics and Trade nominate individual companies and their products for the Design Award. It is a precondition that a product has already been awarded a national or international prize.
The "Volkswagen Corporate Design Essentials" corporate book has already received the red dot communication award and a prize in the Best of Corporate Publishing competition. The design of the corporate book and the Volkswagen brand corporate design system are the work of the Berlin-based agency MetaDesign.
Birkhäuser Verlag has published a comprehensive catalog on the 2007 Design Award. In addition, an exhibition has been organized to present all winners. The exhibition will be opened following the award ceremony and will tour several locations in Germany and other countries.
