VW to build low cost 4-seater
An affordable new entry-level model receive de green light from Volkswagen’s direction. This car will be positioned beneath the slow-selling Brazilian-built Fox.
The new four-seater is one of the first initiatives to be taken by VW’s new chairman Martin Winterkorn since his arrival at the start of the year.The four-seater will cost probable 11,000$ and will compete against cars like Dacia Logan Toyota Aygo, Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107 .
Winterkorn confirms it will be offered in Western Europe first, and then worldwide as a new city car, how will takeVolkswagen back to its roots.Winterkorn sayd: “Shortly after my arrival in Wolfsburg I gave design and development the job to develop a new car beneath the Fox.”
The new entry-level model is described as “an economical, attractive and affordable car that can be used everyday,”There is a possibility to built this car in Malaysia, after VW planned purchase of Malaysian manufacturer Proton.
Winterkorn confirmed that Volkswagen will develop hybrid versions of its smaller models. “There will definitely be compact hybrid models, such as the Polo and Golf, and without any great delay,” he said.
VW develops also a hybrid version of the next-generation Touareg, due in 2010, how should use a system similar to that in the Lexus RX400h. The upcoming Touran will benefit of a hybrid motorization.
