Let’s be honest here. Which of the two would you take for a spin during track day? Is it the beefy Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye or the chunky Lamborghini Urus? Tough call, right? We’re thinking none of them, just to be clear, but MotorTrend here did it anyway.

So, here’s the thing. You’ve got a heavy SUV racing against a heavy muscle car that’s been fitted with bits and bobs from the Demon, a car that’s designed and built to go freakishly fast in a straight line. Hell, what can go wrong?

Sorry, America, but Italy wins this one

It’s very important to talk about just how much weight these two cars share between them. I know, I know, this is a race, but it involves a rhino and an elephant, so we’ll start with the weight. That said, the 2019 Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye tips the scales at 4,514 pounds, while the 2019 Lamborghini Urus weighs 4,850 pounds, so it is 336 pounds heavier than the muscle car.

That said, let’s look at what drives them. As you know, they’re both V-8s, with the Redeye packing a supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat engine cranking out 797 horsepower and 707 pound-feet of torque. The Urus, on the other hand, was developed with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 good for 641 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque.

Draw a line and you’ll see that the heavier car is also the less potent: the Urus falls behind the Redeye, which has a 156-horsepower, 80-pound-feet of torque advantage over Sant’Agata Bolognese’s mighty SUV. The Urus, however, sends power to all fours, while the Hellcat is RWD, and as you’ll see, that holds a lot of weight in a circuit rumble.

Concretely, the Urus needs 3.6 seconds to reach 62 mph from a standstill on its way to a top speed of 190 mph, while the Redeye needs 3.4 seconds to clear the 0-60 interval, topping out at 203 mph.

So, yeah, pretty much against all odds, the Lamborghini Urus is quicker than the Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye on the racetrack, with a lap time of 1:40.90 against 1:42.70. Heck, the Urus was almost two seconds quicker. That's huge!
