Mercedes came up with an AMG C63 Black Series almost a decade back. The team at Carwow brought it to the drag strip to take on an F80 BMW M3. Both these vehicles, however, are tuned and make 1,450 horses combined. While the BMW features a pair of hybrid turbos, the Mercedes features a supercharged under the hood. They go up against each other in a series of rolling and drag races. Which tuned car do you think will win the showdown?

The C 63 Makes More Horses, But Is Also 440 Pounds Heavier

Speaking of the specs, the Mercedes-AMG C63 Black Series comes with a 6.2-liter, V-8 engine. In the stock form, it is naturally aspirated. However, this tuned version is mated to a supercharger, some downpipes, and a meth injection for the intercooler. As a result of this, it churns out 750 ponies and 701 pound-feet of twist.

The BMW M3, on the other hand, comes with a smaller 3.0-liter, straight-six mill under the hood. In the standard spec, the car features twin turbos, but here, it comes with hybrid turbos. Downpipes and meth injection for the intercooler are present here, too. Courtesy of this, the M3 puts out 700 horses – 50 less than its rival – but, the same 701 pound-feet of torque.

Power is routed to the rear wheels on both cars. The BMW is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, whereas the Mercedes features a multi-clutch system. The Mercedes C 63 weighs 3,858 pounds, almost 450 pounds heavier than the 3,417-pound Bimmer.

The M3 Is Quick, But Loses Plot At High Speeds

The cars kick-started with a rolling race from 50 mph in third gear and the sportiest setting. The BMW got a healthy lead initially, but at around the 170-mph mark, the Mercedes just flew past the M3. At the mile mark, it touched its top speed of 200 mph! For the second race, they started at 70 mph in fifth gear. The M3 again got the lead, but this time, it managed to keep it till the finish line, thus drawing the scores in the rolling races.

In the drag races, the AMG C 63 absolutely obliterated the M3. It sprinted to 60 mph from rest in just 3.63 seconds, reached the quarter-mile in 11.19 seconds, and the mile in 27.05 seconds. It also went up to 202 mph before it was tamed and brought back to reality. They raced again, and this time the C 63 touched 60 mph in 3.49 seconds and quarter-mile in 11.11 seconds, but it was 0.2 seconds slower to the mile. As for the BMW M3, it took 11.9 seconds to the quarter-mile in its second run.

There was a brake test, too, in between the rolling and drag race. The M3 won it by coming to a halt from 70 mph in a much shorter distance than the C 63.
