I stumbled upon this video from 2018 where a Dodge Durango SRT took on a Dodge Challenger R/T. Now, neither of these vehicles sit at the top of their respective model ranges, but regardless, they’re still plenty fast. How fast?

Well, you’re about to see just that in this Dodge face-off. Needless to say, I can’t really confirm if these are indeed stock, but it is a great place to start I suppose. So, let’s look at some numbers, shall we? This is yet another Mopar vs Mopar battle.

Dodge Durango SRT

In the white corner, we have Dodge Durango SRT. Now, apart from a few subtle badges and those big wheels, there isn’t much on the sheet metal to convey that this family hauler in essence a performance vehicle of sorts.

A perfect sleeper if you will. Under the hood lies a 6.4-liter 392 HEMI V-8 that pumps out 475 horses and 470 pound-feet of torque.} You’ve got AWD traction coming from an eight-speed Torqueflite transmission. The Durango tips the scales at 5,378 pounds.

Dodge Challenger R/T

In the yellow corner, we have a Dodge Challenger R/T, which pretty much sits in the middle of the Muscle car’s model range. You’ve got a 5.7 liter V-8 lurking under the hood and it puts out 375 ponies and 410 pound-feet of torque.

The R/T can be had with either a six-speed manual or auto, with power being sent exclusively to the rear wheels. Curb weight? The Challenger comes in at 4,190 pounds. So will the lighter weight help make up for that deficit in power over the SUV? Lets’ find out.

The Races

After putting laying down some rubber and getting some heat into those tires, both cars were ready to unleash their fury. The lights go out and the Pony car managed to get the perfect launch, but don’t write off the SUV because it actually managed to beat the Challenger to the line. On the first pass, the Durango demolished the ¼ mile in 13.76 seconds at 100.45 mph against 13.85 seconds at 101.32 mph for the Challenger.

If that wasn’t enough, the two cars decided to go in for another round, once the line faded. Once again the driver in the muscle car had the perfect reaction time and was off, but this time around it was pretty much neck and neck all the way to the line. How close? There was just 8/100th of a second between the two at the ¼ mile.

To Sum It Up

We live in an age of Super SUVs and this Durango certainly proves that point by making a strong case for itself. Now I agree that there are more powerful versions of both cars and the sky is the limit with how much performance or weight you can shed with these machines, but a 5,000+ pound SUV running so close to a muscle car is impressive.
