Pit the Dodge Challenger Hellcat against any car and it will be the Alpha male there. However, it faced an unlikely bully on the drag strip in the form of a tuned BMW M4. Sam from ‘Sam CarLegion’ raced a Challenger and an M4, and even though the former makes more power, it lost to the German every time they raced. Quite embarrassing for the muscle car, eh?

What Are These Beasts Powered By?

An eight-speed automatic gearbox routes power to the rear wheels only.

The BMW M4 is powered by a 3.0-liter, six-cylinder turbocharged engine. In the stock form, it used to churn out 450 horses and 406 pound-feet of torque. Power is channeled to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The muscle car is a lot heavier than the German, tipping the scales at 4,448 pounds. The BMW, on the other hand, weighs 3,728 pounds; 720 pounds lighter than the Challenger. Thanks to this, the M4 boasts a power-to-weight ratio of .174 horsepower/pound versus the Challenger’s .161 horsepower/pound.

This Is As Lopsided As It Can Get

The first run was a standing drag race in Sport mode. The Challenger was quicker off the line, but the gearbox got stuck in the second gear for a couple of seconds and that was enough for the Bimmer to get a huge lead and win the race. They gave it a shot again, and this time, the Challenger’s gearbox wasn’t perplexed. Despite that, the BMW was too hot for it.

After the races from a dig, they moved on to rolling races from 31 mph (50 kph). At kickdown, the Dodge edged the BMW, but the latter overtook it almost immediately to score another win. For the next roll race, the cars were locked in Sports setting with manual mode for the gearbox. But, that didn’t make any difference whatsoever as the BMW spanked the Challenger just as hard as it did in all the previous races.
