Watch A Ford Fusion Make An Absolute Mockery Of The Ford Mustang!

The Fusion may be done and dusted, but it still pulls one over the Mustang to hurt the latter’s ego!

LISTEN 02:55

Sam from ‘Sam CarLegion’ brought two Ford products to the drag strip for an intra-family drag race. One of them is the Mustang, and the other, the Fusion. At the onset, you would expect the Mustang to be the winner. But, as it turns out, the Fusion’s got enough oomph to beat the muscle car and hurt its ego. Oh, boy!

How Much Power Do They Make?

The Ford Mustang is powered by a 2.3-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged EcoBoost engine that churns out 310 ponies and 350 pound-feet of torque.

Power is routed to the rear wheels here via a 10-speed automatic gearbox.

The Drag Races Belong To The Fusion

For the first run, the cars were locked into sport mode and the traction control kept on. The Fusion flew off the line and made it look like the Mustang’s driver was sleeping on the steering wheel. But, that wasn’t the case and both the drivers had similar reaction times. More than the power difference here, it was the drive system that came into play. The Mustang is a rear-wheel-drive model, whereas the Fusion features an all-wheel-drive system. In the second race, the Mustang was on par with the Fusion till the first gear shift. Post that, it was the Fusion-show once again. The discontinued sedan beat the Mustang this time as well.

The third run was a roll race from 31 mph (50 kph), with the transmissions locked in Sport mode. This, however, was a different ballgame. The Mustang had a much better kickdown and left the Fusion in the dust. The fact that the Fusion’s driver was late to launch the car didn’t help the cause either.

The next roll run was also in the Sport setting, but with the Traction Control off. This did make a difference. Both the cars had good kickdowns, but the Mustang managed to keep its nose ahead from the start to the end of the race. It would be interesting to see how the cars would’ve performed if this was a half-mile race. Nevertheless, the final verdict is that the standing drag races belonged to the Fusion and the roll races to the Mustang.
