We’ve seen plenty of supercar battles on airstrips before, but this one’s a bit different from the rest. Posted to Twitter by user @Chopsyturvey, it’s an abbreviated 44-second clip that shows a head-to-head acceleration battle between a Lamborghini Huracan Performante and a MIG-29K fighter jet, combining horsepower and firepower into a single brief video.

The Full Story

The above-featured video is shot from a camera phone on a hill overlooking the airstrip, which means it’s a bit shaky and not exactly super high-quality. That said, it does give you a good idea just how potent these two machines really are.

According to a recent post from LiveFistDefence.com, the race is a publicity stunt to promote recruitment for the Indian Navy, which adopted the Russian fighter jet in 2009.

The Lambo comes to the party rocking a mid-mounted 5.2-liter V-10 powerplant, which, in the Performante model, is tuned to produce as much as 631 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque, 29 ponies and 18 pound-feet more than you get in the standard Huracan model. Complementing the extra grunt is an an extra 88 pounds off the car’s curb weight, all of which helps it to achieve a 2.9-second 0-to-60 mph time. Top speed clocks in at 202 mph.

Clearly, the Huracan Performante is no slouch, but compared to the mighty MIG-29K, it’s a bit outgunned. Literally. Equipped with a GSh-30-1 30 mm cannon, air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles, and laser-guided bombs, the MIG-29K can bring the hammer down in a big way.

Luckily for the Lambo, this was a test in speed, not combat worthiness. Of course, the MIG-29K is the superior machine in that regard as well, with a set of RD-33MK jet engines that produce more than 19,800 pounds of thrust with the afterburners lit.

Watching the video, though, the Lamborghini manages to hang with the MIG for a surprisingly long time, at least until the plane really digs into the throttle and goes airborne.

While the Huracan Performante may have lost the race, it’s still got loads of desirable features compared to the MIG. For example, it’s easier to park, more fuel efficient, and at about $300,000 a pop, much more affordable than the $16 million war machine.

That said… I think you know which one I’d rather have.
