Ever since Porsche announce the all-electric Taycan, we've been asking ourselves if it can beat the incredible Tesla Model S in a drag race. The video below doesn't provide an answer to this specific question, but it still gives us an interesting Porsche vs Tesla battle. One between the Taycan and the Model Y.

Needless to say, Edmunds' drag race is far from fair. Not only it brings together a sedan and a crossover, but it also pairs an entry-level Taycan to a range-topping Model Y. The base Porsche Taycan, a rear-wheel-drive model, comes with 402 horsepower and 254 pound-feet of torque on tap. Meanwhile, the Model Y Performance packs 456 horsepower and 497 pound-feet of twist. That's an extra 54 horses and 243 pound-feet. On top of that, it also features an all-wheel-drive system.

While the battle is unfair, Edmunds argues that these cars have a similar sticker. The entry-level Taycan comes in at around $80,000, the Model Y Performance costs around $70,000.

So, does the Porsche Taycan stand a chance against Tesla's best rendition for the Model Y? As you might have already guessed, it doesn't. The Model Y wins the first drag race comfortably, with the Taycan crossing the finish line a couple of seconds behind. For the second race, the Taycan gets a head starts of almost a second, but it still loses by a notable margin. Finally, arguing that the Taycan may stand a better chance in a rolling race, the two drivers floor it from 30 mph. The Taycan fares a bit better, but it still loses.

Things would have probably looked different is the Model Y was raced against a more powerful version of Taycan. Porsche offers five more drivetrain layouts, starting with a 93 kWh model good for 469 horsepower and 263 pound-feet of torque. There's also a couple of AWD models that generate 523 and 563 horsepower, respectively. Next up, we have the Taycan Turbo, rated at 671 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of twist. Finally, the Taycan Turbo S packs a massive 751 horses and 774 pound-feet of torque.

Needless to say, there are plenty of options to choose from and some of them are quicker than the Tesla Model Y Performance.
