Just on a routine fun day out at the Crofton Capitol Raceway in Mechanicsville, the Modern Red Hemi got the chance to run against a stock Dodge Demon. And, for once, I have the entire list of modifications, at least for one of the cars. Let’s look at the numbers:
2016 5.7 Pro Charged R/T
This is a retired veteran’s Pro Charged 5.7 Challenger R/T Superstock track. Dubbed the Modern Red Hemi, it's rocking over $20,000 in modifications. The stock 5.7 HEMI R/T was rated at 370 ponies and 395 pound-feet of torque. The addition of a bolt-on Pro Charger could see the addition of close to 160 horses. With all the additional mods, the Modern Red Hemi produces 685 horsepower and 567 pound-feet of torque.
Here’s the entire list of mods

2018 Stock Dodge Demon
This is a 2018 stock Demon. Under the hood lies a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V-8 that produces 840 horsepower and 770 pound-feet of torque.} On paper, it should be capable of demolishing the ¼ mile in 9.54 seconds at 140 mph. On a previous run, the guy in the Demon said that he only managed an 11.0 as he spun off the line. Let’s see how it fares against the Modern Red Hemi.
The Race
Okay, you can also watch the Modern Red Hemi take on a couple of Mustangs before it went up against the Demon. It managed to pull a 10.8 and 10.9-second pass, but the main event, by far, that day was going up against the stock Demon. Both cars took off pretty well and ran pretty close.
The Modern Red HEMI had the slight edge off the bat, but the Demon began to close the gap, if only there was enough room, though. The 5.7 R/T managed 11.16 seconds on the Dragy. The slips too confirmed this - an 11.09-second run at 130.58 mph. Still a quick pass, but not as fast as the runs from earlier in the day. But, despite the wheel spin, the R/T was able to beat the Demon to the ¼ mile.
To Sum It Up
So, the final run was pretty darn close. It evened out in a way as both cars spun off the line. Perhaps better prep on track could have yielded better results. Next up, the Modern Red Hemi is gonna run against the SRT Bone in the black widow and Allen in a stock Red Eye, which will air at 20:00 Eastern on Wednesday (March 23). Watch this space.
