Some of the iconic off-roaders out there are also made to sprint on smooth tarmac, very much outside their comfort zone

It’s fun to see off-roaders climb rocks and maneuver through treacherous paths with utmost ease. However, they can be scary when they are let loose with a heavy foot. In this video, we see four accomplished off-roaders go against each other, thanks to Carwow.

The vehicles in question are the likes of Land Rover Discovery, Toyota Land Cruiser, Jeep Wrangler, and Volkswagen Amarok. The Carwow folks decided to race these beasts in a straight-line dash to see who bests the others. Who do you think would win?

How they compare on paper?

The Land Rover Discovery comes with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine that makes 240 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. The mighty Toyota Land Cruiser is packed with a 2.8-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel mill that produces 177 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon comes with a 2.2-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine under the hood that makes 200 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. The Volkswagen Amarok, on the other hand, is packed with a 3.0-liter, V-6 turbodiesel mill that makes 258 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque.

The Land Cruiser Is Surprisingly Quick Off The Line

In the first drag race, the Land Cruiser surprisingly galloped ahead of the competition in the first couple of seconds.

However, the Land Rover Discovery and the Amarok soon overtook it easily. Even the Jeep Rubicon overtook the Land Cruiser with ease. The Japanese beast almost lost breath after that and was nowhere close to the Amarok that completed the quarter-mile sprint in 16.5 seconds. The Discovery came in second and completed the race in 17.2 seconds, followed by the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and Land Cruiser completing in 18.1 and 19.3 seconds respectively.

The Volkswagen Amarok Tops Them All

The next challenge in line was the rolling race starting from 50 mph. This time, too, the results were exactly the same. The Amarok raced away, followed by the Discovery, Wrangler, and Land Cruiser.

Despite weighing in at over 4,600 pounds, the Amarok was the quickest to stop even in the braking test.

All beasts braked hard at 70 mph and the Land Cruiser lost out here too. It’s quite interesting because the Land Cruiser is not an inexpensive vehicle by any means. What’s more, the iconic SUV may have lost against the other vehicles here, but it is still one of the most desired vehicles across the globe.

Final Thoughts

The Volkswagen Amarok is an absolute beast and at the same time, one of the most underrated trucks on the market today. Recently, Carwow pitted the Amarok against the F-150 Raptor, Ranger Raptor, and the Mercedes X-Class, and even there, the Amarok emerged victorious. The German pickup is an underdog and such tests will only help build its credibility as a potent truck. What are your thoughts on the VW the Amarok? Share them with us in the comments section below.
