Most of the autobahn top speed runs we’ve seen over the years usually involve a high-powered German sedan with its governor disabled. This time, we’ve got something a little different. Ever wonder what it’s like to push the new Ford Focus ST-Line to its limits? Now’s your chance to find out, with this point-of-view take from AutoTopNL.

A Blue Oval Hatch In Overdrive

The car in question is a blue 2019 Ford Focus ST-Line, with a turbocharged 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine producing as much as 184 horsepower and 240 Nm (177 pound-feet) of torque. It’s worth noting that this is the Euro-spec setup, as opposed to the 2.0-liter four-cylinder we get in the old (and now defunct) U.S.-spec ST.

While down on power compared to the stateside ST, this 1.5-liter still manages to push the hatch to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a little over 8 seconds, while top speed clocks in at 225 km/h (140 mph).

The video begins with a quick walk around, before the driver moves into the cabin. The five-door looks good in blue, while the interior shot includes a large speedometer readout in km/h to let you know exactly how quick it’s moving.

As soon as the driver gets on the highway, it’s foot to the carpet as the Focus winds its way through the gears. Before long, 225 km/h (140 mph) is on the speedo.

The driver continues his run several more times when the traffic is clear. It’s impressive how stable the hatch looks at a buck forty, and clearly the driver has no problems probing the car’s upper limits time and again.

Well, for the sake of comparison, the Golf GTI makes much more power, with peak output rated at 217 horses thanks to a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder powerplant. Sixty mph arrives in 6.4 seconds, while top speed clocks in at 155 mph.

So the Golf has the Ford beat on the highway, but the ST-Line’s big brother might have something to say about that.

What we really would like to see is the Ford Focus RS hit the ‘Bahn. Rocking a turbo 2.3-liter four-cylinder producing 350 horsepower through a high-spec AWD drivetrain, the Focus RS can rampage to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds, with top speed rated at a VW-smashing 165 mph.

Get on it, AutoTopNL!
