Sam from ‘Sam CarLegion’ brought two fast, powerful SUVs to the drag strip for a face-off. On one corner, we had the Audi Q8, and on the other, the BMW X5. Both the SUVs are quite similar on paper, which makes this an unpredictable race. Which one do you think will win?

Both The SUVs Have A Near-Identical Power-to-Weight Ratio

An eight-speed automatic gearbox powers all four wheels here.

Power is routed to all four wheels here too via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The BMW X5 tips the scales at 4,863 pounds, whereas the Q8 is a tad bit heavier, weighing in at 4,960 pounds. The X5 boasts of a marginally better power-to-weight ratio of 0.069 compared to the Audi Q8’s 0.068 hp/lb.

One Drag Race And One Roll Race Was All That Was Needed

The first round was a drag race with both the Germans locked in Sport mode. The X5 flew off the line, which made it look like the Q8’s driver was slow to react. However, replays suggested that both the drivers floored the pedal at the same time, but the X5 didn’t take long to gain speeds.

The second run was a rolling race from 31 mph (50 kph) in the Sport mode with the Traction Control on. At kickdown, the Q8 was left in the dust once again and all it could do was stare at the X5’s taillights till the quarter-mile finish line.

Conclusion

As Sam rightly pointed out, BMW, for some reason, tends to underestimate its power figures as the real-world performance doesn’t match with the numbers quoted. Both the SUVs here make 335 horses, and in fact, the BMW makes lesser torque. But, the results say otherwise. What’s up with that, BMW?

Anyway, watch the video below and let us know what you think about this race in the comments section.
