Daniel Abt has uploaded another drag racing video on his YouTube channel, and this time, it’s the Audi R8 Spyder up against the 991 Porsche 911 GT3. The GT3 has proven its might time and time again, but the R8 Spyder is no slouch either. Do you think the V-10-powered Audi can beat the six-cylinder Porsche 911 GT3?
The R8 Makes More Power But Is Also A Lot Heavier
The Audi R8 is powered by a 5.2-liter V-10 engine that makes 533 horses and 398 pound-feet of torque.
The engine is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and the Quattro all-wheel-drive system. It weighs 3,957 pounds.
The 992 Porsche 911 GT3 comes with a 4.0-liter, naturally aspirated flat-six mill that puts out 503 ponies and 347 pound-feet of torque.
Power is channeled to the rear wheels via a seven-speed PDK. Since it features a smaller engine and doesn’t have an all-wheel-drive system, it weighs significantly lower than the R8 Spyder. It weighs 3,329 pounds; 628 pounds lighter, to be precise.
The R8 Had A Dominant Showing
In the first race, the R8 Spyder got the win. It touched the quarter-mile mark in 11.82 seconds and half-mile in 18.25 seconds. The Spyder took 3.98 seconds from 0 to 62 mph, 8.01 seconds from 62 to 124 mph, and recorded a top speed of 150.7 mph. The Porsche took 12.67 seconds to the quarter-mile and 19.24 seconds to half-mile. It took 4.84 seconds from 0 to 62 mph, 8.48 seconds from 62 to 124 mph, and recorded a top speed of 144.6 mph. That was a clean sweep for the GT3 in all aspects.
The second run was no different. The Audi R8 Spyder took 4.03 seconds to sprint to 62 mph from rest, 7.94 seconds from 62 to 124 mph, and recorded a top speed of 151.1 mph. The quarter-mile run was completed in 11.84 seconds and half-mile in 18.27 seconds. The Porsche took 12.13 seconds to the quarter-mile and 18.67 seconds to half-mile. It took 4.27 seconds from 0 to 62 mph, 8.41 seconds from 62 to 124 mph, and couldn’t go beyond 147.8 mph.
Porsche Trumped The R8 Spyder In The Final Two Races
The third run, however, belonged to Porsche. Not by a huge margin, but it still won. The Porsche took 11.78 seconds to finish the quarter-mile and 18.3 seconds to complete the half-mile. As for the other figures, it took 3.87 seconds from 0-62 mph, 8.3 seconds from 62 to 124 mph, and recorded 148.4 mph as its highest speed. The Spyder took 4.09 seconds to sprint from naught to 62 mph, 8.05 seconds from 62 to 124 mph, and touched 150.6 mph. The quarter-mile and half-mile times were 11.92 seconds and 18.38 seconds; 0.14- and 0.08 seconds slower, respectively.
Next up was a rolling race from 37 mph (60 kph). The Porsche won this one, too. The times were not mentioned, but the victory wasn’t by a huge margin. Nevertheless, the end result is that the four-match series was drawn 2-2.
