Remember how the Ford Fusion Sport obliterated the Mustang on the drag strip? Well, it is now back to Sam CarLegion’s channel for a drag race against a Honda Accord. The Accord, in every sense, is an underdog heading into the race. But, unlike some heroes that emerge from the bottom, the Accord couldn’t do much here other than kneeling down in front of the Fusion. Too dramatic, eh?

Cars From The Same Segment, But Vastly Different

A six-speed automatic gearbox powers all four wheels.

The front wheels are powered here via a 10-speed automatic gearbox.

The Fusion Sport tips the scales at 3,681 pounds, whereas the Accord weighs in at 3,296 pounds. Even though the Fusion is almost 400 pounds heavier, the power difference still puts it at an advantage in terms of power-to-weight ratio. It boasts a ratio of .088 hp/lb compared to the Accord’s .076 hp/lb.

How Did The Races Go?

The first race was from Sport mode with Traction Control on. The Fusion flew off the line and left the Accord far behind in what turned out to be a sheer dominance from the American. They gave it a shot again, this time with the gearbox in manual mode. For a second, it looked like the Accord will be able to give a fight this time, but it wasn’t meant to be. The Fusion made a mockery out of it yet again.

Since the standing drag races were pretty much one way, they switched to roll races. The first round was from 31 mph (50 kph) with the cars in Sport settings and Traction Control on. The Accord was much closer this time around, but the race still belonged to the Fusion Sport.

They raced again, but the only difference was the Traction Control was turned off this time. This ended up making a big difference and seemed to have dented the Fusion’s chances of scoring a clean sweep. For a few seconds initially after the kickdown, the Accord was ahead of the Fusion. However, the latter ended up edging it later on. Sam noted that the reaction time of the Fusion’s driver could’ve been slower, but either way, this was the most competitive fight of the four races we saw here.
