Koenigsegg's Regera is a hybrid. A 1,480-horsepower hybrid that's torturing its tires with over 1,475 pound-feet of torque. Hiding a 5.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V-8 as well as three electric motors, the Regera is a car so mind-numbingly fast we'd wish Christian von Koenigsegg was tasked with conceiving all of the world's hybrids.

Exceeding 180 mph in a Koenigsegg is like taking candy from a baby

Back in 2017, a $2.5 million Agera RS became the world's fastest production car by going quicker than the standard Bugatti Chiron and it did so on a closed-off section of a public road, not Ehra-Lessien or Nardo or anything like that, not Ehra-Lessien or Nardo or anything like that}}.

Sure, Bugatti took back that all-important speed record since then but for an independent Swedish company that was celebrating its 20th birthday, making a car that could squash VW's ultra-luxurious and ultra-fast rolling laboratory that is Bugatti was quite something. And it still is if you think about it, not to mention that Koenigsegg hasn't really given up the dream of pushing the Jesko past 300 mph and reclaim the record.

But this isn't the Jesko, this is the (in comparison) lesser Regera. Weighing in at 3,510 pounds, it's not particularly light but that's because there are three Yasa electric motors underneath that curvaceous bodywork that add 697 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque to the total output that is, as a result, absolutely incredible (yes, even next to the Jesko's and the Chiron's): 1,480 horsepower and 1,475 pound-feet of torque.

All of that gets channeled through the very clever single-gear transmission known as the Koenigsegg Direct Drive System (KDD) that basically features direct drive, with a 2.73:1 reduction ratio.

Sadly, you'll need an airfield or a personal strip of (very, very) long road to test just how fast the Regera goes but at least you can be sure that this car does the job it was meant to do and does it safely, thanks to Koenigsegg's ESC system developed to help you avoid going into the bushes when you're traveling as fast as a small airplane. It is no wonder, then, that it can go from naught to 300 km/h (186 mph) like it's nothing and the video here below proves that yet again. Enjoy the growl of the engines and the giggles of the driver - we'd be giggling too in his place!
