Brooks from DragTimes pit two most powerful production EVs last month – the Tesla Model S Plaid versus the Lucid Air. It was very much anticipated because the Plaid finally had an EV-rival with similar specs. Now, the Lucid Air Performance Dream Edition takes on the third most powerful production EV on sale today – the Porsche Taycan Turbo S. The Taycan Turbo S, despite being the German’s flagship EV and being costlier than the Lucid Air and the Tesla Model S Plaid, made over 350 horses less than its rival here and wasn’t any lighter either. So, as expected, the Lucid tore through the Air in all the races they took part in.

How Much Power Do These Cars Make?

The Lucid Air seen here is the top-spec Performance Dream Edition. It comes with two motors that put out 1,111 horsepower combined, making it the world’s most powerful production EV. Power is routed to all four wheels. The car is riding on Pirelli PZero HL tires and had an 85-percent charge before the races commenced.

The Porsche Taycan that graced this race is the top-of-the-line Turbo S model. It churns out 750 horses and 774 pound-feet of torque from its dual-motor setup. Although it has a serious power deficit when compared to the Lucid Air, it comes with something its rival here doesn’t – a two-speed transmission. It channels power to all four wheels. It came to the race track fully charged. For what it’s worth, the Taycan Turbo S costs nearly $50,000 more than the Air Dream Performance Edition.

The Lucid Air Performance Dream Edition weighs 5,236 pounds, whereas the Porsche Taycan Turbo S tips the scales at 5,300 pounds.

That Was Some Domination!

In the first race, the Porsche driver’s reaction time was slower than that of the Lucid Air’s pilot. But, as Linkin Park said – In the end, it doesn’t even matter. That’s because the Taycan wasn’t even close to the Air by the time they ended the race and the time difference between the two was a lot more than the difference in reaction times. The gap just kept increasing till the end. The Dragy times revealed that the Taycan Turbo S completed the quarter-mile distance in 10.96 seconds at 128.2 mph. There was no data available for the Air, but our guess is that it completed the race in the early 10s.

The starts in the second race were swapped. This time, the Air’s driver was slow to get off the line, which gave the Taycan ample time to get a good lead. But, a few seconds in, the Lucid Air sprinted past the Porsche to get another win. This time, the 2020 Taycan Turbo S finished the quarter-mile distance in 10.86 seconds at 129.1 mph.

The final round was a roll race, but there’s no information about the speeds they started at, the times, or anything. But, what’s clear is that the Lucid butchered the Porsche without any mercy and made it look like the latter was standing still. A 3-0 win for the Lucid Air here, which isn’t surprising given that the Porsche Taycan Turbo S is slightly heavier than the Air and makes over 350 horses less than its rival. So much for being the third most powerful production EV on sale today!
