Who do you think will walk away with the bragging rights - the McLaren 765LT or the Porsche GT2 RS?by Sidd Dhimaan, on
Both these cars need no introduction. The McLaren 765LT is essentially the track version of the 720S whereas the Porsche GT2 RS, well, it’s a frickin’ GT2 RS! Daniel Abt uploaded a video of these two cars drag-racing on his YouTube channel recently. If you’re familiar with both the cars, you know this race is quite predictable. But, we can’t ever get tired of watching either of these cars ever, can we?
The 765LT Makes 160 Horses More Than The GT2 RS!
Let’s get the specs out of the way. The McLaren 765LT, as mentioned earlier, is a track version of the 720S in its essence, so it’s lighter, quicker, and faster. It is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo, V-8 engine. In the stock form, it churns out 755 ponies and 590 pound-feet of oomph. This car, however, is tuned to make around 860 horses. Power is routed to the rear wheels via a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It even features a Novitec straight-pipe exhaust.
The Porsche GT2 RS, on the other hand, features a six-cylinder, twin-turbo engine that displaces at 3.8 liters. It cranks out 700 horses and 553 pound-feet of twist. It is also mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
As Expected, The McLaren Obliterated The Porsche
In the first drag race, the McLaren got a better start off the line, but within a second was left behind by the Porsche. However, the British car didn’t take long to take the lead again and eventually, win the race.
It managed to complete the quarter-mile in 11.23 seconds at 170 mph! It took 4.35 seconds from 0-62 mph. As for the GT2 RS, it galloped to 62 mph from a standstill in just 3.66 seconds, but lost the race in the end. The data displayed seem to have something as the Porsche lost the race, but the time it took to the finish line was 11.08 seconds (?!) Perhaps, it was 11.8 seconds. It managed to touch 167 mph.
Anyway, in the second race, the result was the same. Both the cars were warmed up, though, and performed much better. The McLaren 765LT galloped to 62 mph in 4.34 seconds and to quarter-mile in 10.52 seconds at an impressive 176 mph. The Porsche GT2 RS took 3.43 seconds to 62 mph and completed the quarter-mile in 10.82 seconds at 168 mph. Finally, there was a rolling race from 37 mph in the second gear. The Porsche pulled really well, but as was with the drag races, the McLaren took the lead and won the race in the end.
Do you think the result would’ve been different if the Porsche was tuned and made 100 horses more while the 765LT was stock? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
