Although its almost six years old at this point, the 2014 McLaren P1 is still an absolute beast. As one of the original members of the hybrid hypercar holy trinity, the P1’s spaceship-like demeanor commands respect no matter what the crowd may be. Properly motivated, this English monster can throw itself at the horizon with shocking alacrity, as evidenced by this new top speed run that recently posted to YouTube.

Woking’s Best, Unleashed

The car featured here is one of the original P1 models, and comes to the party rocking an attractive shade of British racing green, complete with bright green wheels.

The video kicks off with a quick rundown on the specs and stats before the car takes to the track and lays the smack down.

As a reminder, the 2014 McLaren P1 offers up a rear-mid-engine layout, with power sent exclusively to the rear wheels. At the heart of the matter is a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V-8 engine, which by itself produces 727 horsepower and 531 pound-feet of torque. On top of this, the P1 adds an electric hybrid powertrain that throws in an extra 177 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque, making for a grand total of 903 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque.

Back to the video. Shot at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds, the McLaren is unleashed on a 2.7-mile aerodynamic top speed test session held at the Space Florida’s Shuttle Landing Facility runway on Merritt Island. That means there’s plenty of tarmac to see what she’ll do.

After the specs, we get to hear this thing accelerate hard at launch, but then the video switches over to an in-car perspective that appears to show the car accelerate much more gingerly on a separate run. The new point of view provides some nice numbers thanks to a speedometer.

At 100 mph, the driver really puts the throttle to the floor, and the P1’s speed shoots up accordingly.

The driver then shuts it down before turning back. The video ends with shot of the P1 screaming across the finish line.

Good stuff. Now we just wanna see it line up against something equally as fast, powerful and expensive.
