The Mercedes-AMG E 53 Coupe isn’t a whippersnapper the way performance cars are. But, it’s far from a tortoise, either. The AMG E 53 Coupe is surprisingly quick on its feet. It’s capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds, and while its 158-mph top speed isn’t anything to write home about, it’s still capable of putting a lot of cars in its segment in their proper places. A big part of the AMG E 53 Coupe’s performance capabilities rests on its powertrain. It has a twin-turbocharged, inline-six and a mild hybrid setup with EQ Boost that combine to produce a total of 450 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. All that power — and the resulting crackling sound it produces — was on full display in this video of the coupe running roughshod over the Autobahn.

Underestimate the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Coupe at your own peril. That’s the moral of this video, which comes to us by way of the AutoTopNL YouTube channel. The video itself is pretty straightforward. It shows the driver of the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Coupe taking the coupe to the German Autobahn so it can stretch its legs.

You can see based on its speedometer that the AMG E 53 Coupe has no problem hitting its 158-mph top speed. And it looks like it’s gliding as it does it, too. What gets lost in watching the video, though, is the sound the AMG E 53 Coupe's engine makes. It may seem like a surprise for a car with a hybrid setup to be as noisy as the AMG E 53 Coupe, but there shouldn’t be any surprises about what it can do if you know what it’s capable of.

A number of traffic patches in the Autobahn get in the way of the car reaching its top speed numerous times. That was a bit of a bummer. The Mercedes-AMG E 53 Coupe is far from the fastest or most powerful car in the business, but it does hold its own when you give it a chance to unleash its full capability.

Hitting a top speed of 158 mph without breaking a sweat isn’t easy. The Mercedes-AMG E 53 Coupe can do that and still sound like a car that’s not afraid to let its surroundings know that it means serious business.
