Hennessey Performance has transformed the F-150 pickup into a track weapon with the Venom Sport Package

In today’s ¼ mile showdown, we have a Hennessey F-150 truck, taking on a stock Mustang GT500 at the Pennzoil proving ground test track, down in Sealy, Texas. This is a performance spec battle with two vehicles from two very different ends of the Ford line-up. They both pack similar power, although it comes as no surprise that the truck weighs more. Let’s look at the numbers first, shall we?

The truck in question? Well, it’s a 2021 F-150 single cab. Dubbed the 775, this rig has been overhauled both inside and out

In the grey corner, you’ve got a 2021 Ford F-150 single cab pick-up truck that’s been overhauled both inside and out by the guys at Hennessey Performance. Dubbed the Venom 775, under the hood lies a Coyote 5.0 liter Supercharged V-8 engine that produces, you guessed it, 775 horsepower and 685 pound-feet of torque. Part of what gives this truck such phenomenal numbers is a 2.9-liter supercharger. This pickup also features the sports kit option that adds lowered suspension and custom rims.

He in fact goes on to say that the 775 reminds him of the GEN II SVT Lightning

According to Alex, who’s behind the wheel, this F-150 in fact reminds him of the Gen II Lightning, that Paul Walker drove in the opening scenes of Fast and the Furious. Apparently, it launches like a rocket ship in four-wheel drive and is a lot of fun with power deployed just to the rear as well. He further adds that the Venom 775, feels like a Mustang with a pick-up bed. The F-150 single cab weighs 6050 pounds. This truck is now heading out to United Cars, Almana, which is based in the middle-east (Doha, Qatar).

The Venom takes on a bone stock Ford Mustang GT500. This one looks like its been driven straight from the dealer as you can even see the window sticker on the passenger side

In the white corner, you have a top-tier bone stock Ford Mustang GT500. Dressed in the classic white with blue pinstripes look, this pony car looks every bit the Stang doesn’t it? When I mean stock, if you look closely, you can actually see the window sticker of the car on the passenger side. Looks like this car was driven straight from the dealer, just to take part in this duel.

Hennessey Performance pit one of their tuned F150-trucks against a stock GT500 in a 1/4 mile showdown at the Pennzoil proving ground test track in Sealy, Texas

Watching these two lethal machines line up for launch was a sight to behold. Alex has the Venom set to 4H. With that is GO time, and the Venom gets a punchy start. You really have to listen to the whine of that supercharger. Off the bat, the pickup managed to get ahead of the GT500 by nearly a car length.

The GT500 managed to reel in the Venom 775 and it narrowly clinched the win on the second pass

The Mustang did eventually start to reel in the Venom, but it was too late, the 775 had this one in the bag, easy. Alex says that when you’re doing speeds like this in a sportscar, it feels normal, however, in a truck, it just feels unreal. It really is physics-defying performance on the Venom 775.

Round Two

Spec check done, the tow line up for launch. The truck weighs more than 2000 lbs more and is set to 4H. Will that make a difference?

For round two, Alex decides to give the jump to the Mustang, to see if that makes a difference. They line up once again. The GT500 is off the line first with the Venom giving it the beans a moment later. But once again, the 775 manages to put its nose ahead of the GT500, but it was much closer this time around. The Mustang reeled in the F-150 and just about managed to clinch the win.

In the end, the its staggering to see the kind of performance that you can extract from a truck, provided you have the right hardware

It really is astonishing to see that kind of performance that you can get from a truck, when you add the right hardware, to the extent that its ability to keep up with cars like the Mustang GT500. The Venom 775 Sport upgrade is different from the traditional 775. While that truck is lifted and featured the off-road package and rides on knobbly tires, the sport Venom is lowered to the ground and has street tires. Regardless of the one you choose, the Venom 775 is one hell of an upgrade for the F-150.
