More SUVs are now hitting the track than ever before, and I'm not surprised. They are, after all, the most popular body style, currently on the market. But, these aren't just any SUVs, they're the high-performance kind.

In a recent video by the Drag Racing and Car Stuff Channel, you can watch a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, take on some pretty serious muscle cars. Now, as before, I don't have the exact numbers folks, so I'm gonna run with the baseline figures here.

Jeep Gran Cherokee Trackhawk

Although I don't have the numbers, what I can see is that this Jeep has been lowered. Under the hood of the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk lies a 6.2-liter supercharged mill that puts out 710 horses and 649 pound-feet of torque. } Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed gearbox. The SUV tips the scales 5,355 pounds. The way that this rig runs, I bet there's a lot going on under the hood and I'm not ruling out stickier rubber either.

Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

Meanwhile, in the blue corner, we've got Chevy's potent Camaro ZL1. Chevy's Pony Car is also rocking a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8. The engine produces 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque.} Power is sent to the rear axle via a six-speed manual transmission. It comes as no surprise that the Muscle car is considerably lighter as compared to the SUV at 3,820 pounds.

Dodge Challenger Hellcat

Last but not the least, the third car featured in the video is a Dodge Challenger Hellcat SRT. Just like the Trackhawk, the Challenger, too, features a 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V-8 that puts out a healthy 797 horsepower and 707 pound-feet of torque. I can't confirm if this one is rocking the six-speed manual or that eight-speed Tremec-auto, sending power to the rear. The Challenger tips the scales at 4428 pounds. Also, this particular example is sitting on proper sticky rubber at the rear.

Let's see if we can make sense of all these numbers out on track

The Races

Jeep Trackhawk vs Camaro ZL1

The Jeep first took on the Camaro ZL1. I'm gonna cut to the chase here. Despite the Chevy getting the hit across two rounds, this sleeper Trackhawk managed to demolish the 14/ mile faster with a super-fast pass of 10.41 seconds at 132.26 mph and 10.45 seconds at 132.05.

Jeep Trackhawk vs Dodge Challenger Hellcat SRT

With the Camaro taken care of, it was now time to see if a Challenger Hellcat could take down this family hauler? Well, you're about to find out. After putting some rubber on the track, the SRT was ready. The lights go out and while the pony car got a slightly better launch, it couldn't hang on to the lead for long as the SUV was gone. The Track hawk did the 1/4 mile in 10.64 seconds at 321.41 mph.

To Wrap it up

So, to summarise, what we've learned is that weight really isn't a problem if you can compensate that with power. There's no way in hell that this is a stock Hellcat, given the sub-11 second 1/4 mile passes. The added traction from AWD was obviously a bonus.
