Porsche showed up to the Geneva Motor Show with the E Cross Turismo Concept, effectively putting to bed rumors that the Mission E Sedan would make its appearance at this year's show. With a production-ready design and an 800-volt electrical system in tow, this concept does, however, confirm previous reports that the Mission E platform could expand to a whole lineup of all-electric models. Porsche promises that the E Cross Turismo can deliver more than 600 horsepower consistently, hit 62 mph in less than 3.5 seconds, and hit 124 mph in under 12 seconds.

Porsche E Cross Turismo Concept Design

The Porsche E Cross Turismo Concept doesn’t look all that different from what we’ve seen in the form of the Mission E Concept. In fact, it has a striking resemblance with the same headlights and the wraparound fenders that create the corner air intakes of the front fascia. These are, however, a bit more open, which suggests they are used for battery or electric motor cooling. They wouldn’t be used to cool the brakes, though, as you can bet this all-electric beast has regenerative braking. The concept even has the same muscular fenders while the air dam at the bottom is actually larger, sporting a subtle blue accent line across the bottom.

Things start to get a little wonky beyond the front clip. The fenders get the same sport vents ahead of the front doors, but the roof is more elevated, especially in the rear, which creates a hatchback or crossover-ish look. Come to think about it, is this thing a hatchback or a crossover? Honestly, we’re not sure. Back to the topic at hand, the concepts side skirts take on a fresh look with more style. And, since it’s basically production ready, it even has the traditional door handles and side-view mirrors.

The rear end is the epitome of Porsche design. You’ve got the long, LED taillight assembly, the short overhang, the long rear glass, and even a backlit Porsche logo on the rear hatch. There’s also a sporty rear diffuser with a blue line that matches the air dam and wheels, while two huge vents mimic what we the typical vents seen on the front of Mercedes models.

All told, it’s not a bad design, but it really borders on the line of what we would expect from Porsche, and we’re still not sure if this is a hatchback or a crossover. It kind of resides right in the middle.

Porsche E Cross Turismo Performance

The Porsche E Cross Turismo runs on an 800-volt system, with power going to a pair of permanent magnet motors. The 800-volt system is designed specifically for fast charging and, while charging time has yet to be disclosed, Porsche says it can be charged by induction, your typical charging station, or by the Porsche home energy storage system.

Porsche promises that the concept, and its subsequent production model, can produce more than 600 horsepower and will hit 62 mph in less than 3.5 seconds. It is also said to hit 124 mph in less than 12 seconds. More importantly, however, Porsche is still standing by its statement that its electric cars, including this one, will be able to offer repeat performance time and time again without any loss of power – something that the Tesla Model S and Model X just can’t do.

Porsche E Cross Turismo Interior Design

The interior of the E Cross Turismo is actually right on par with what you would expect from an electric car with a Porsche badge. There’s plenty of fine materials, several touchscreen panels, a digital instrument cluster, and some blue accenting here and there to tie the interior and exterior together flawlessly. According to Porsche the infotainment system even has eye-tracking control, but for what purpose that will serve or exactly how that will facilitate operating the various systems remains to be seen. It does offer a 2+2 layout, which is about par for the course here, and there does appear to be considerable cargo room in the rear. Porsche really does deliver when it comes to blending utility, luxury, and functionality.

When Will the Porsche E Cross Turismo Go into Production?

There is no specific production timetable for this concept, but during the live reveal, it was said that it was near-production-ready and could go into production soon. Porsche plans to showcase the series-produced version of the car sometime next year, which raises one question: Will we see the production version of the Mission E sedan or the E Cross Turismo first? Only time will tell, friends, only time will tell.
