Lamborghini’s plant in Sant’Agata has been at idle since March 13, when the COVID-19 outbreak put a temporary end to production. It originally planned to resume operations March 25, but that had to be prolonged, with the company now saying production will restart on May 4th. That announcement came via a general press release that just so happened to hide a little piece of information, one that says Lamborghini is planning to host an online world premiere of a new car on May 7th. The company stopped short of naming that model or disclosing any other information, but we already have a damn good idea of what’s coming.

A Fourth Stand-Alone Model Isn’t Happening

Lambo executives have come right out and said that a fourth model next to the Aventador, Huracan, and Urus won’t happen until at least the middle of the decade. And, while the company managed to save a little bit of cheddar by skipping the Geneva Motor Show (which was canceled anyway), we highly doubt that a fourth stand-alone model is coming. }

Is Lamborghini Replaced the Aventador?

Now, I know you’re thinking that the Aventador is due to be replaced. After all, it has been around for a while, right? Well, it’s creeping up on a decade of service, so it is about time, but its successor isn’t going to come until 2024-ish. So, we know it’s not an Aventador successor and, since the 2020 Sian FKP 37 was based on the Aventador, a special edition Aventador seems like a long shot as well. }

What About Special Editions of the Huracan or the Urus?

This leaves the Huracan and the Urus., which means there are two plausible scenarios, but only one of which is actually likely to happen. It would reportedly shed around 150 kilos (about 330 pounds) to go with more advanced aero and other upgrades borrowed from the real-life Trofeo race car. This could honestly be what Lambo is planning to reveal on May 7th, but it’s nowhere near as likely as a new derivative of the Urus.

It Won’t Be a Special Edition Urus, It Will Be the Urus PHEV!

There are two potential Urus models that could debut on May 7th. The first potential model is a Urus Performante, something that was rumored to be happening when the brand’s CTO hinted at the possibility, but as we said last year, a Urus Performance probably isn’t going to happen. So, what’s the most likely scenario? Lamborghini is going to reveal the Urus PHEV on May 7th. How do I know? Well, the Urus ST-X has already been showcased and forgotten about, and the Urus PHEV is the second Urus model that was promised in 2020. With the Urus being around for a couple of years now, it’s time for the baby to go hybrid. After all, Lamborghini confirmed more hybrids were coming, so expect to see the URUS PHEV next week!
