What happens when you invite two professional drift racers and tell them that they’re competing in a friendly game of H-O-R-S-E? It’s the makings of a fun and competitive duel, but since Toyota was the one that did the inviting, this game of horse came with an added twist: a pair of brand-new 2020 Toyota GR Supras. The objective of the game, according to fellow pro drift racer and part-time game master, Ryan Tuerck, is to perform a series of stunts with the Supra. Whoever doesn’t complete any of these stunts gets a letter added to them. The first one to spell H-O-R-S-E loses. Simple enough, right? It should be, at least for Ken Gushi and Frederic Aasbo, the two pro drifters who competed head-to-head for the honor of becoming the first-ever Toyota Supra Game of Horse Power Champion.

Drifting the 2020 GR Supra Looks Like Bliss

The fact remains that the fourth-generation Toyota A80 Supra still occupies a soft spot in the hearts of drifters everywhere. It’s a hard car to beat when it comes to all-around drifting action. Just ask all the people that have burned their fair share of rubber while going sideways in the A80 Supra. The all-new A90 Supra still has a long way to go before it can reach that level, but videos like this serve as a positive reminder that, perhaps one day, it can occupy the same amount of space in the hearts of drifters the world over.

The premise of the Toyota Supra Game of Horse Power is simple, at least for those who understand how the game of basketball H-O-R-S-E is played. Two professional drifters — Ken Gushi and Frederic Aasbo — compete in a series of challenges officiated by fellow drift pro Ryan Tuerck. Whoever loses or doesn’t complete a specific challenge will have a letter attached to his name. Whoever completes the word “HORSE” first loses. It’s a pretty straightforward game in the context of basketball, but what happens when you throw in another variable into the mix? In this case, there are two variables: a pair of 2020 Toyota GR Supras.

Sure, there’s a lot of gratuities involved in this competition, but who cares? All we care about is seeing these two Supras make its predecessor proud. The first challenge, called “Smoke Detected,” involves racing across a basketball court and light up the smoke detectors with the smoke from their cars as fast as possible. The winner is the driver who can light up the smoke detectors longer than his adversary.

The second challenge, called “The Pizza Delivery,” involves putting a box of cheese pizza in the cargo area and then using the Supra to completely obliterate said pizza. The driver who was the worse looking pizza after their respective run-around wins. While I’m not a big fan of destroying a fresh box of cheese pizza, I can understand the method behind this particular challenge. It’s all about laying the Supra loose, pizzas be damned!

The third challenge continues with the food-and-snack theme. It’s called “The Box of Donuts,” and the objective is to complete half-a-dozen — that’s six! — donuts in a confined space, or as the video calls it, a “donut box.” The wit runs strong on this one. Whoever completes the six donuts faster wins the challenge. On a personal note, it doesn’t help that after seeing the cheese pizzas, the video follows it up with images of strawberry donuts. I’m getting hungry watching this thing.

The fifth challenge is called, “The Piñata.” Both drivers take turns breaking open a piñata using their Supras. The first person to find the spark plug hidden inside the piñata the fastest wins this round. At this point, the challenges become more difficult, beginning with the next one, called “Powerslide Parking.” The objective of this challenge is to park the Supra in the space between the two white boxes. Whoever can do it without knocking down any of the two vases sitting on top the boxes wins. Without spoiling anything, I will say that at least one of the competitors broke at least one vase.

The next challenge, called “On a Dime,” is a simple break test for the two Supras. Both cars sprint on a straight line and whoever comes closest to the blown-up fake dime at the end of the strip without hitting it takes the point. This one looks easy, but the level of anticipation that comes with braking at the exact right time while applying the exact pressure on the brake pedal actually makes it a lot more difficult than it looks. Next up is the “Fast Break” challenge. Both drivers again race across the basketball court. The objective is to dunk basketballs in four mini hoops scattered throughout the court. The first one to complete all four dunks wins.

The next challenge is called “A Latte Power,” and it comes with its own twist. Both Gushi and Aasbo are passengers holding a pair of coffee cups as Tuerck assumes the role of driver for both competitors. The passenger who spills the least amount of coffee while Tuerck runs the Supra roughshod wins this challenge. I can at least tell you now that one of the two competitors failed this challenge miserably, setting up the final round, called “Shooting the J.” Both Gushi and Aasbo are required to make J turns with their Supras, and the driver who performs the better J turn wins this challenge and the entire competition.

Final Thoughts

I’m not going to spoil the winner of the competition because I want you guys to watch the whole thing. The video is barely six minutes long, but it packs so much action and hilarity in that space of time. Plus, you’ll find out who won the Toyota Supra Game of Horse Power. Watching the video will also give you an idea on the A90 Supra’s drifting potential. That’s the point of the whole competition. It still has a long way to go before it can be talked about as an equal to its predecessor, but for what it’s worth the A90 Supra is off to a good start as a potential drifting superstar.
