What Do You Really Get From the $59,995 Base Chevy C8 Corvette?
Quite a lot, in case you were wonderingby Tudor Rus, on
At the time of writing, Chevrolet’s website specified an entry-level price tag of $58,900 applied to the C8 Corvette, although at launch, the mid-engined sports car was announced with a $59,995 starting sticker.
Tweaking prices up and down is a common practice so there’s no surprise here, not when car sales are frozen by the COVID-19 pandemic. But let’s say your budget for a new 2020 C8 Corvette only lets you buy the entry-level variant. You’d obviously want to know exactly what features are you getting, right? But sometimes features lists can be overwhelming and a hands-on approach works better in some cases. With no showrooms open, though, let this video guide to what $59,995 gets you in a base 1LT Chevy C8 Corvette.
Is the base C8 Corvette to be avoided?
Well, no. Even if it doesn’t come with the likes of Z51 package and magnetic ride, the 1LT C8 Corvette still offers a lot of bang for the buck, as Daily Downshift found out.
For starters, there’s obviously the engine: a 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V-8 cranking out 490 horsepower at 6,450 rpm and 465 pound-feet of torque at 5,150 rpm that’s twinned to an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox and a limited-slip rear differential.
On the visual front, a base LT1 Corvette will sit on 19-inch wheels in the front and 20-inch ones in the rear, shod in Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tires developed specifically for this car. A removable hard top is also on the menu in the base C8, GT1 seats, a square-ish steering wheel, and a rearview camera.
What’s more, the standard C8 Corvette offers three driving modes (Touring, Sport, and Track) and Bose 10-speaker audio setup. Besides the features highlighted in the video, the base 2020 Chevrolet Corvette also offers the following:
- double wishbone, L-shape lower arms suspension
- magnetic rack and pinion power steering
- Brembo 4-piston-front, 2-piston-rear brakes
- aluminized stainless-steel exhaust with stainless-steel tips
- Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus 8-inch color touchscreen
- voice recognition
- Apple CarPlay
- Android Auto
- 8-way adjustable driver and passenger seats
- 12-inch digital instrument cluster
- power locking
- keyless entry and start
- power windows
- cruise control
- dual-zone climate control
- LED headlights
- heated power side mirrors
