What happens when an insanely powerful muscle car decides to take on a performance-oriented grocery-getter? Well, all hell breaks loose! Sam from ‘Sam CarLegion’ pits a Dodge Charger Redeye Widebody against a Mercedes-AMG E63 S on a drag strip to see how they perform. Both the vehicles have very different characteristics. One is a car that lives to scare the crap out of you and has the potential to make you pee your pants, whereas the other is Mr. Rogers injected with a dose of steroids. Which car do you have your bets on?

That’s 800 Horses To The Rear Wheels!

Power is routed to the rear wheels exclusively via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

A nine-speed automatic gearbox powers all four wheels.

The muscle car weighs 4,610 pounds, whereas the wagon tips the scales at 4,683 pounds. Since the German is heavier and makes lesser power, its power-to-weight ratio is significantly lower than the Charger’s. The ratio stands at .134 horsepower/pound compared to the Dodge’s .173 horsepower/pound. Going by this, the E63 S enters the race as the underdog. Or, in other words, a 600+-horsepower vehicle is the underdog in this race. Wow!

How Did The Races Go?

The first run was a rolling race from 31 mph (50 kph) with the cars locked into sport mode. As expected the Dodge flew past the wagon at kickdown and kept at it till the finish line. The E 63S isn’t a slouch by any means, and to its credit, it made sure the gap with the Charger isn’t embarrassingly high. Anywho, point – Dodge Charger.

They raced again, but the cars were slotted into ‘Race’ mode this time. The E63 S managed to put up a better show this time and stayed on par with the Charger at kickdown, but the muscle car started getting past as the race progressed and eventually won.

They gave it another shot in the same settings, and this time the wagon zoomed past the Charger and won the round. However, Sam launched a little bit earlier and this was enough to get a good enough head start for the German wagon to beat the Charger. To be fair, they raced again, but the Charger lost this time as well despite no jump starts. The Charger had a problem with traction at kickdown, which shouldn’t come as a surprise considering you have nearly 800 horses being put down via the rear wheels only.

Since the scores for the Race mode roll races were tied at 1-1, they had a tie-breaker round to decide the winner. This time, the Charger was in its elements and showed who the boss here is. It beat the AMG E 63S convincingly and won the round.

Sam and Alex then moved on to a drag race, which doesn't make sense given the track and the fact that the Charger wasn't equipped with the right tires. But, for the viewers, they conducted one. The cars slot into the Race mode, and the E63 S absolutely smoked the Charger here like it was racing a Dacia Sandero! The Mercedes-AMG ends with a win here.
