Introduced in 2016, the Bugatti Chiron has already spawned eight variations ranging from simple special-edition models to unique cars like the La Voiture Noire. But the supercar firm isn't planning to stop just yet, and a new test mule spotted by our paparazzi proves just that. We don't know what it is yet, but we're looking at three different scenarios.

Bugatti may be working on a new special-edition model

This test mule looks a lot like the Chiron Super Sport 300+. You can see that by looking at the front bumper, which features taller intakes, a revised diffuser, and V-shaped corners. The regular Chiron features narrower, longer vents. So this could be a regular supercar that looks like the Super Sport 300+. The latter is a beefed-up model that broke the top speed record at 304 mph, and it's a limited-edition version built in just 30 units. This model would join versions like the Sport, 110 Ans Bugatti, and Pur Sport and it could cost notably less than the Super Sport 300+. The deal could be similar to the Chiron Noire, which is based on the one-off La Voiture Noire, but it's not as fancy and doesn't cost as much.

Bugatti could be testing new drivetrain components

Maybe it's a slightly more powerful version of the W-16 engine, new brakes, or maybe even some sort of mild hybrid technology.

Bugatti could be testing the Chiron Super Sport 300+

The Super Sport 300+ is not yet in production, so Bugatti could be testing the car before assembly begins. The car that set the new top speed record was just a prototype, and it definitely requires some extra testing before going into production. The Super Sport 300+ needs to live up to its potential in customer hands, but it also needs to be safe and reliable.

Whatever it is, I'm pretty sure we'll find out soon enough.
