Audi stunned crowds at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show when it unveiled the close-to-production e-Tron GT concept, a vehicle that previews a sporty, low-slung, all-electric sedan. Even more surprising is that it let certain journalists have a try at driving it but, since it’s not yet homologated for road use, this was done under escort by local police.

The car itself also had stiffer and lower springs than the future production version, so the drivers were asked to avoid any potholes at all costs. Aside from that, the concept lacks physical door handles, but that’s really one of the few changes they’ll make to it for production.
From the outside, it looks really close to a production Audi, as does the inside which, according to those who have driven the car, is fully functional. Audi won’t make any real changes to it, so what you see in this concept is what you’ll get in the series production model.
The journos who drove the car didn’t get a chance to try out its 582 horsepower electric powertrain, though, which grants the car a claimed zero to sixty sprint time of around 3.5 seconds, as well as an electronically limited top speed of 149 mph or 240 km/h.
Audi says it has a range of 248 miles or 400 km a value which would make it competitive against a Tesla Model S today. However, the plan is for this model to reach production in late 2020 with first owners taking delivery in early-to-mid 2019.
