What's the difference between the Porsche 911 GT3 and the Bentley Continental GT? Well, the first one is track-oriented version of the 911, a car that you can drive on a daily basis, but also one that will shine on a race track. The Continental GT is a massive grand tourer, both luxurious and comfortable. Two entirely different cars, really. But do they have something in common? Technically speaking, they're both grand tourers. And this is exactly why Carwow decided to see which one is faster in a straight line. Because why not!

On top of having been built for different purposes, these cars are also radically different when it comes to specs. The 991.2-gen GT3 boasts a 4.0-liter flat-six engine that cranks out 493 horsepower and 339 pound-feet of torque. It's fitted with a race-inspired aero package and a big wing and it tips the scales at only 3,218 pounds. The Continental GT, on the other hand, comes with a massive 6.0-liter W-12. The twin-turbo unit delivers a massive 626 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of twist.

The cars are being pitted against each other in a traditional drag race. And it's one of the closest ever hosted by Carwow. The Continental GT takes off a tad quicker than the Porsche, which makes sense given the AWD system, but the 911 GT3 catches up a few seconds later. The German sports car manages to win, but it does so by very little, less than the length of its front hood. Both vehicles run the quarter mile in about 11.5 seconds.

The outlet also races them from a rolling start. The cars take off at 50 mph and continue running until they hit around 150 mph. The 911 GT3 comes out on top during the first race, in which the Bentley is driven in its comfort setting. In the second race, the Continental GT driver activates the sportier setup and the British grand tourer manages to get in front of the 911 GT3. All three tests are as tight as they get, a sign that these very different cars behave about the same in a straight line.

Although much heavier, the Continental GT levels things in the power-to-weight department thanks to its more potent engine and AWD system.

But before you rush to buy a Conti GT, you should know that the 911 GT3 is significantly quicker on the race track thanks to its incredible agility.
