Why the BMW X5 Will Debut at the Paris Motor Show
Both the 3 Series and the X5 are moving into new generations, while the highly-anticipated Z4, co-developed with Toyota, is also close to its global debut
While the German automaker has yet to make an official announcement for the show, BMW USA product and technology communications manager Alex Schmuck told CarBuzz that the brand "will be there for sure." Schmuck also confirmed that BMW has "a world premiere scheduled for the show," but declined to name a badge.
What could it be?
Well, BMW is getting ready to roll out a number of brand-new cars this year. Both the 3 Series and the X5 are moving into new generations, while the highly-anticipated Z4, co-developed with Toyota, is also close to its global debut. The Z4 is likely to break cover at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, though, so this leaves us the 3 Series and the X5. The sedan is rumored to arrive at the Los Angeles Auto Show, which will be "very big" for BMW, with "a lot of new products," according to Schmuck, so the X5 is the best bet for Paris.
It will be built on the CLAR platform, which means it will be lighter than its predecessor and probably slightly larger
Although BMW has yet to reveal anything beyond some teasers, we do know a few things about the next-generation X5. It will be built on the CLAR platform, which means it will be lighter than its predecessor and probably slightly larger. It should have a sportier design, a brand-new interior with more premium materials than ever, and BMW’s latest tech, some borrowed from the latest 7 Series. We should find out more along the way, so make sure you stick around for updates.
