Were Lotus engineers thinking clearly when they designed the new Eletre?
by Philippe Daix, onThe Lotus Eletre is probably the most un-Lotus ever, with a massive curb weight, lots of digital screens, and SUV body style. It does, however, offer the performance you’d expect from a Lotus, but there are some interesting quirks to it. From its aerodynamic features to some interesting design queues, and for better or worse, this is the Lotus Eletre.
The front end has been criticized as looking like a next-gen Lamborghini Urus
Mainly because of these thin headlights and the layout of the fascia
Aerodynamic design means it slices through the air
The wheels have carbon inserts for better aerodynamics
Sideview cameras are way more aerodynamic than mirrors.
The rear spoiler is unique in that there’s a huge split in the middle
That design is even mimicked by the pads on the top of the dash inside
Other interior quirks include the rear passenger display, the exposed speakers and the perforated seatbacks.
It’s also the most digital lotus ever, including the sideview cameras in the door trim, the infotainment display, sleek instrument cluster and passenger display.
Analog controls are limited to the steering wheel and the hub on the center console
