In case you’ve got the memory of a goldfish, I just want to remind you how the lead-up and eventual debut of the Dodge Hellcat Demon completely enthralled the automotive enthusiast community. And rightfully so – because after all, more than 800 horsepower, a 0-to-60 mph time of 2.3 seconds, and a 9.6 quarter mile time at 140 mph are the kind of specs usually reserved for baseless forum post gloating, not highly accountable factory-fresh production vehicles. Nevertheless, the Demon is now very much a thing, which makes this recently spied Hellcat variant a bit of a mystery. You see, it appears as though it’s rocking a widebody kit similar to the Demon, but with Hellcat details, such as a hood and badging from the bad cat, leading to rampant speculation as to what FCA is up to.

As you might expect, there are more than a few theories floating around. It could be little more than a new styling option, or it could be an entirely new model. At this point, it’s hard to say with any certainty, but that’s what makes speculation so fun, right?

Option 1 – Demon Style For The Hellcat

Note: Dodge Challenger SRT Demon pictured here.

Compared to the “regular” Hellcat model, the Demon is wider, beefier, and meaner. It’s a good look, and it’s not entirely out of the question that this new model is little more than an optional Demon body with Hellcat guts – a tempting offer for anyone who wants those broad fenders, but for less money than the Demon.

Alternatively, this thing might be a gap-filler between the Hellcat and Demon, similar to what Chevy did with the Corvette Grand Sport. That means the same look and a few of the speed tricks as the Demon (drag suspension, cheater slick tires, etc.), but only 707 horses under the hood.

Option 2 – AWD Hellcat

Note: Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk pictured here.

Remember all those teasers Dodge gave us in the lead up to the Demon’s debut? If you do, you might also remember the speculation that the Demon would need AWD to put down its prodigious output.

While the original AWD theory went up in smoke with videos of the Demon doing RWD burnouts, we could see the idea resurface with this new Hellcat, especially now that we have the Hellcat-powered, all-four-wheels-driven Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. And why not – we’ve already got an AWD Challenger in the form of the GT model, so why not toss the V-6 in favor of a supercharged V-8?

Option 3 – A Hellcat That Handles

Probably the most exciting idea is a Hellcat designed for corners. Straight-line blasts are fun and all, but what about laying down over 700 horsepower on a road course? A widebody kit would certainly help this muscle car find those apexes, given the fact those flared fenders can house more tire. Plus, we can already see the enormous Brembo brakes up front. Cut some weight, adjust the suspension, and who knows – maybe an old cat can learn a new trick.

Of course, nothing official has been announced as of yet, but we were wondering – what do you want to see from this widebody Hellcat? Let us know in the comments section below.
