Chevrolet got the performance right for its first-ever mid-engine production car but in doing so, it kind of missed the whole point of what a well-made interior should look and feel like. But what if the carmaker came up with a next-generation C9 that had a more European flavor and looked like Leyang Bai’s design study?
Let’s be serious, Chevy will never take such a tight turn with the Corvette, not for the C9 generation and not for those to follow it. However, it can improve in other areas, such as cabin build quality.
There’s no secret that many C8 Corvette owners are not happy about their cars’ interiors. There’ve been reported issues regarding paint, electrical gremlins, and even bad stitching. Others complained about clumps in the seat upholstery but in all fairness, Chevy has been open-eared and responsive towards worried owners.
That said, we believe a more European approach on things might solve these problems. Direct Chevy C8 competitors from Europe come with neatly-appointed interiors that leave no room for criticism. And while we’re at it, maybe the European approach would also work on the exterior.
Take these renders, for example. The artist behind them tried to envision what a quality-focused Chevy Corvette might look like in a scenario where raw power falls second and luxury and quality are the dominant features.
We don’t just like the idea itself, but the whole execution and, of course, the result that proves you can turn heads with swoopy, fluid shapes, and a plunging rear end without going overboard with aggressive cues.
Which begs the question: would a car that looks like this be still called a Corvette?
