The new BMW 7 series was just unveiled, and while the polarising exterior design maybe not be to everyone’s taste, you just can’t ignore the futuristic minimalist cabin that is loaded to the gills with tech. Let's talk screens for a moment and there are a fair few in the new 7.

The panel integrates two screens up front and has the driver's instrument display and the infotainment system integrated into the same curved display. This setup is similar to what we've previously seen on the new i4 and iX Crossover. and now has augmented reality. built-in.

While touchscreen systems have become quite the norm in cars over the past few years, the new 7's party piece has to be the optional 8K 31-inch display, which also supports touch input for the rear seat passengers. It won’t be that convenient to use which is why BMW has thrown in a bunch of touchscreens mounted in the rear door's panels.

These smaller screens can be used to control the giant 31-inch screen, that rolls down from the roof. Another strange thing to note about this rear 8K panel is that it has a very unconventional 32:9 aspect ratio.

The industry standard on most streaming services or otherwise is 16:9 and it is very unlikely that content creators are going to make the switch to 32:9 just to cater to BMW‘s new in-car entertainment system. When not in use, it stores back horizontally onto the roof again. Thanks to the built-in 5G connectivity, the screen supports Amazon fire TV, which means you can stream movies on the fly.

Paired to a 36-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system, you really do get your own personal home theatre set up on wheels. Not only does the screen spoil you in terms of entertainment but the touchscreen also supports video calls. All this from the comfort of those rear seats with gapless footrests which are also optional, by the way. The seats recline to a staggering 42 degrees.

The sun blinds all around the passenger cell dim and cacoon you to create a cinema-like experience, while you rock it across the road in absolute comfort. If you like what you see, BMW will charge you $4,750 for the pleasure of having the theatre screen on the 7 series and the i7.
