When launched back in 1962, the 250 GTE was powered by a 3.0-liter V-12 engine that delivered a total of 237 horsepower and 193 pound-feet of torque. At launch, the car was priced at $12,600, and right now, at auction, you can find them selling for as much as $400,000.

But what happens when you swap the V-12 engine, and go for a Chevrolet LT1 V-8 engine? A 250 GTE powered by a V-8 engine is now listed on Bring a Trailer and the current bid is $125,000 - that's what.

There are very few details on this 1962 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2, but the listing says it was acquired by the current owner’s brother in 2005. The owners started an intensive rebuild process and finished it in 2014. Sometime along the way, the V-12 engine was also replaced by a fuel-injected 350ci GM LT1 Generation II V8 mated to a Tremec five-speed manual transmission.

The driveshaft was also custom built, while the front look has been modified to resemble the 250 California Spider. The taillights were also replaced by a pair from a later 250 model. the list of updates also includes: an aluminum radiator, a 25-gallon fuel cell, a retrofitted HVAC system, a tilting steering column, and aftermarket gauges.

In true Ferrari spirit, the car has been finished in red with a navy blue center stripe with yellow accents. Even the engine has been painted to match the exterior look!

For the interior, the seats are wrapped in black leather, with the same material being applied on the door panels, and center console. The car also received a wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel, a relocated Hurst shifter, air conditioning and heating system from Vintage Air and a a 25-gallon fuel tank placed in the trunk.

And by the way, did you know that the 250 GTE was Ferrari’s first model with standard rear seating?
